Last Friday, the large bird trap was set up at Ventė Cape. A black redstart was the first bird to be caught with it this year. Employees of the Ventė Cape Ornithological Station will operate this trap to catch birds and bats through mid-November.

The trap was set up in 1978 in the southeastern part of Ventė Cape, on the shore of the lagoon. The area in front of the trap features small trees and bushes, along with a small excavated pond. This trap predominantly captures various tit species, common starlings, common chiffchaffs, and common chaffinches. It includes one bird collection chamber.

The trap underwent renovation in 2015, which included the construction of a new framework and the fabrication of a new net. The present dimensions of the trap are: an entrance width of 65 m., a trap length of 120 m., and a height of 25 m. The net can be raised and lowered within 2 minutes using electric winches.
